Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.)

Healing through a gentle, evidence-based approach

At Awaken Counselling & Wellness, we’re committed to offering therapies that help individuals, couples, children, and families find relief and resilience. One of the newest approaches available through our team is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.), which is an innovative, evidence-based treatment designed to help people move past trauma, anxiety, and other overwhelming experiences.

Our Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.) Service:

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a unique form of psychotherapy that uses eye movements combined with proven therapeutic techniques (such as guided imagery, Gestalt, and psychodynamic methods). This combination helps clients replace painful or distressing images with positive ones of their choosing.

What makes A.R.T. different:

  • It often works much faster than traditional therapy, sometimes producing results within just one session.

  • Clients do not need to share the details of their trauma for the therapy to be effective, which can make the process feel safer and less overwhelming.

  • Sessions are designed to be calming, empowering, and client-directed, with your therapist guiding you through each step.

Who Can Benefit?

A.R.T. has been shown to help with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) & Complex PTSD

  • Grief & loss

  • Family and relationship issues, including domestic violence recovery

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias

  • Depression

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Addictions & substance use concerns

  • Low self-esteem or self-image issues

  • Performance anxiety

  • Job-related stress or burnout

  • Pain management

  • Traumas connected to learning challenges such as dyslexia

Because A.R.T. works by calming the nervous system and helping the brain reprocess difficult experiences, many clients report feeling lighter, calmer, and more hopeful after just a few sessions.

What to Expect

Your journey with A.R.T. begins with an initial intake session (80 minutes), where your therapist will get to know you, your goals, and your history. A.R.T. will not be conducted until this intake session is complete.

  • Consultation: You can start with a free 15-minute consultation (by phone or online) to learn more about A.R.T. and decide if it feels right for you.

  • Intake Session: An extended first session (80 minutes) to review your background, goals, and complete the required consent form.

  • A.R.T. Sessions: Offered in-person only at this time. Sessions are structured, but client-led, with your therapist guiding you through safe, supportive steps.

A.R.T. can also be used with children (depending on age and developmental level). For youth, parents attend the intake session but are not present during the A.R.T. session itself.

In some cases, such as clients with post-concussion syndrome or neurological conditions (e.g., epilepsy), medical clearance may be required before beginning A.R.T.. Your therapist will discuss this with you during your consultation or intake session.
